GEORGETOWN, Texas – After the ninth tie of the game Southwestern went on a 9-2 run to take a seven point lead midway through the second half and held on for the win to move to 2-0 on the year.
- The Pirates got hot early and jumped out to an 11-point lead seven minutes into the game.
- Hardin-Simmons fought back and pulled within one point five times including just before the break as Ryan Leiss' layup scored as time expired, sending Southwestern into the locker room with a 40-39 advantage.
- With five lead changes in the first four minutes of the second half the Cowboys took a slight lead 50-52 with 13:37 on the clock.
- A pair of free throws by Karrey Sanders gave Southwestern a seven point lead, 67-60, with 7:27 to play that proved to be just enough for the Pirates to secure the win.
