Pirates fall to white hot Crusaders

IRVING, Texas - Southwestern shot 41.2% from the floor but UD was better at 54.8% from the floor as the Pirates fell 70-64 on Sunday. 

Chase Kocher kicked things off with a three to open the scoring of the game, but UD's Aaron Wyatt went off as he scored 10 of Dallas' first 12 points to give the Crusdaers a 12-7 lead midway through the first half. 

Southwestern never took the lead back once they lost it in the first half, but cut the deficit to three 33-30 with a pair of free throws from Adrian Johnson with seconds left on the clock. 

Kocher's jumper on the first possession of the second half pulled SU within one and they regained the lead 45-44 with two free throws by Jake Schifani with 11:39 to play. The lead seesawed back and forth over the next five minutes with three lead changes and two ties, but UD took control with 5:44 left and never looked back. 

Southwestern went nearly three minutes in the final four and a half minutes without a basket and allowed UD to push their lead to ten by capitalizing from the free throw line, making 9-10 in the last three minutes. 

Kocher led the Pirates offensively with 17 points on 5-7 from the floor and 1-2 from three point range while Sean Myers added in 13. Southwestern was killed on the boards 36-20 but did commit just 11 turnovers while forcing 19. 

The loss drops SU to 5-12 overall and 2-5 in the SCAC while Dallas improves to 9-8 on the year and 3-4 in conference play. The Pirates return home to open the second half of conference play, facing Colorado College on Friday night at 6 p.m.
