GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern men's basketball was +14 in rebounds and were outstanding defensively in the second half to defeat Trinity 70-63 in SCAC action Saturday night.

Despite abysmal free throw shooting in the half (38.5%), Southwestern trailed by just one point 31-30. Michael Cantu hit a three with under 30 seconds to play and a jumper by TU's David Lacey as time expired gave the Tigers the slight advantage going into the break.

Sean Myers was all over the boards in the first half, pulling down six rebounds to go with his team high 10 points.

The Pirates came out of halftime even stronger and built their up to 12 points on Nick Atiee's three with 11:32 remaining. Trinity mounted a comeback and pulled within six points, 50-56, with just under six minutes to play, but Southwestern stepped up from the free throw line to keep the Tigers at a safe distance until the final buzzer sounded.

Trinity was held to just 33.3% from the field and 16.7% from three point range in the second half while the Pirates shot 50% from the field and 44.4% from long range in the same frame. Chase Kocher and Myers led all scorers with 17 points each while Atiee added in 14. Trinity's David Lacey led TU with 15 points. Myers pulled down 10 boards to lead in rebounding.

With the win Southwestern improves to 9-14 overall and 5-8 in the SCAC while Trinity drops to 16-7 and 10-3. SU remains at home for the final week of SCAC regular season play, taking on the University of Dallas on Friday night at 8 p.m.
