Southwestern Falls to Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - SU men's basketball crossed paths with a hot-shooting Trinity team as they dropped their contest on Wednesday night 68-49.

After Trinity pulled ahead to start the game it was Southwestern that surged back to tie the contest 13-13 with 11:28 to play in the first. A push in the final five minutes of the frame allowed the Tigers to lead by 12, 39-27 at the break.

SU couldn't find a rhythm to open the second half as TU began to pull away with a 10-1 run, pushing their lead to 21 points 49-28 with 13 minutes remaining.

The Pirates weren't able to answer as the game wound to a close, getting no closer than 14 points.  

Southwestern shot just over 35% from the floor and 27% from three point range while Trinity was hot on the floor, shooting nearly 50% from the field and 42% from three point range.

No Pirates were in double figures as Nathanael Sherrod led with nine points. TU's Robert Kitzinger led all scorers with 18 points.

The loss drops the Pirates to 8-14 overall and 4-8 in the SCAC while Trinity retains the top spot in the conference with a 16-6 overall record, 10-2 in conference play.

The two teams square off for the third time this season as Trinity travels to Georgetown on Saturday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
