GEORGETOWN, Texas – A strong all-around team effort saw
four Pirates in double-digits and nine players score in
Southwestern’s 75-59 win over the University of Dallas
Crusaders on Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates got off to a slow start, leading by one point 8-7 with
14 minutes to play, but catapulted to a ten point lead four minutes
later, going up 17-10. The Crusaders were able to pull even for the
second time in the half with eight minutes left to go, tying the
game at 17 on a layup by Norton.
Junior Nick Caputo spawned another Pirate run with three
consecutive three pointers followed by a layup by senior Zach
Bergstrom. Senior Collyn Kelley got in on the action as well with a
three of his own and Caputo followed with a runner to put SU up
33-21 with three minutes remaining.
The Pirates headed into halftime with a 13 point lead under their
belt, 39-26.
In the second half of the contest SU quietly built their lead
throughout the half, eventually leading by 19 at two different
points in the half. With SU up 62-43 with just under eight minutes
remaining the Crusaders started to make a push, cutting the lead to
15 with six minutes left to play on a pair of free throws by
Pettit.
Bergstrom made three of four consecutive free throws in the fifth
minute to push the Pirate lead back to 18. Solid ball handling and
consistent free throw shooting down the stretch sealed the 75-59
win for SU.
Southwestern was led by Bergstrom in both points and rebounds and
was just one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 19 points and
pulling down 9 boards. Caputo was close behind with 18 points while
Brown put up 12 points and senior A.C. Cox chipped in 10.
SU continued their hot shooting going 48% from the field and 45%
from the three point line. UD was held to 34.5% from the floor and
26.9% from beyond the arc.
The Pirates improve to 5-1 on the season and will take a week and a
half off before continuing their home stand with the SU/TU Classic.

19th at 4:00 pm.
