Pirates Finish 15th Out of 22 Teams in the Suffolk Invite

BOSTON, Mass.Rachel Chiella earned the Southwestern University women's cross country team 40 points after finishing the Ali Curran Suffolk Invitational women's cross country event in a time of 26:08.

The women's race saw 184 competitors from 22 schools most of which were NCAA Division III schools except Boston University and Northeastern University, which are NCAA Division I schools.

Chiella's time was good enough for a 43rd place finish and just 21 seconds ahead of teammate Breanna Steele.

Steele completed the 5-kilometer course in a time of 26:29 and earned the Pirates 48 points.

Casey Gilbert (67th) was third on the team with a 27:38 earning 63 more points.

Hallie Martinez (111th) edged out teammate Emily Chaires (112th) by just two seconds with a 30:24 compared to a 30:26.

Southwestern finished the team competition with 344 points as and a 14th place team finish.

Northeastern took home the team and individual medalist honors as the Huskies collected a mere 23 points as six of their seven runners finishing in the top nine including Madison Neuner's first place time of 22:59.

 

UP NEXT

Southwestern will now set its sights on the postseason when the Pirates host the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29. The starting pistol will go off at 9:30 a.m. CDT.
