PIRATE MEN PLACE 6TH AT SCAC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The men's cross country team finished 6th in at the SCAC Conference Championship meet.  Sophomore Sam Martinez  led the Pirates with a top 10 overall finish with a time of 26:00.9.  Sam was also named to the All-Conference team which is comprised of the top 14 runners in the conference.  Sam is the first men's cross country All Conference member since Jameson Otto in 2005.  The Pirates placed 5 in the top half of the field.  Zach Freeland finished overall in 28th place with a time of 26:38.1, Addison English placed 36th with a time of 26:55.8, Stephen Fuentes placed 42nd with a time of 27:25.6, Allen Smith placed 47th with a time of 27:43.0, Sebastian Winkler placed 51st with a  time of 28:10.7, and freshman Philip Davis placed 61st with a time of 31:30.9.  Also competing for the Pirates was Sam Marsh, 31:38.8, and CJ Martinez, 32:21.3.   Sam Martinez, Freeland, English, Fuentes, Davis, Marsh, and CJ Martinez all ran person records (PR) during the most important race of the year to this point.  Also of note, Allen Smith missed his PR by three seconds despite the conference meet being his first 8K of the year.

The women's cross country team also finished 6th overall.  The very young Pirates placed seven in the top 53 and were led by outstanding first year Lilly Duarte with a time of 23:57.0.  This earned her 19th place overall.  Following her was sophomore Christina Hadley, 33rd place with a time of 24:54.0, first year Kara Koinis, 36th place with a time of 25:12.5, Ursula James placed 44th with a time of 25:52.8, first year Brandi Martin placed 48th with a time of 26:24.3, sophomore Laura Wooden placed 52nd with a time of 27:21.6, first year Amanda Sayer placed 53rd with a time of 27:24.2.  Also competing for the Pirates was Leticia Terrazas, 28:35.3, Meg Greenfield, 29:06.7, Lili McEntire, 29:17.7, Sarah Puffer, 29.35.4, and Elizabeth Grenadier, 30:03.3.  Duarte, Hadley, Martin, Sayer, Greenfield, Puffer, Grenadier, and Wooden all ran PRs this meet as well.

Both the men and women will compete November 13 in the D III regionals in Memphis, TN.
