Armijo Leads Southwestern to 5th Place in Boston

BOSTON, Mass.Brian Armijo's 16th-place finish in the Boston Air Systems Suffolk Invitational men's cross country event highlighted a fifth place finish in the team standings for Southwestern University.

The men's race saw 228 competitors from 22 schools most of which were NCAA Division III schools except Boston University, which is a NCAA Division I school.

Armijo tallied 12 points for the Pirates in the team standings after finishing the 8-kilometer course in a time of 26:52.

Armijo, a sophomore from Albuquerque, N.M., was tied for 23rd at the 3.1-kilometer split with a time of 10:20 before working his way through the crowd over the final 4.9 kilometers.

Zander Bailey (27:24), Xavier Wines (27:45) and Noah Dennis (27:54) all finished within 30 seconds of each other in 26th. 35th and 37th positions, respectively.

Cade Rosenquist finished out the top five for Southwestern with a 76th place finish in a time of 29:24.

Bailey (20), Wines (28), Dennis (29) and Rosenquist (62) along with Armijo propelled the Pirates to team score of 151. Boston University easily won the team competition with just 17 points as all seven Terriers finished in the top nine including the top four finishers.

Vincent Kim (31:12) and Andrew Cutting (31:41) rounded out the roster for the Pirates that made the long flight to the Bean Town.

Moritz Ebbeskotte took home medalists honors as the Boston University runner finished the race in a blazing time of 25:34 and just six seconds ahead of three of his teammates.

Southwestern will now set its sights on the postseason when the Pirates host the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29. The starting pistol will go off at 9:30 a.m. CDT.
