Record Broken at the DBU Old Glory Gallup

Record Broken at the DBU Old Glory Gallup

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS- Dallas Baptist University hosted the DBU Old Glory Gallup XC Meet in Grand Prairie, TX on Saturday, Oct 7, 2023. This multi-regional meet is an opportunity for collegiate cross-country teams to compete among a group of regionally diverse teams.

The Pirate men's team lined up with 27 other teams and nearly 300 participants for the start of the 8k race. Coach Joe Sponsel had this to say about the men's performance, "the men raced superbly on Saturday. Both mentally and physically, they combined everything that we've been working on in training over the last month with rhythm, poise, and their kick among other things. All but one ran a PR and some people were over a minute faster than their previous best mark. Of course the freshmen had only raced one 8k before, and some progress is expected just with becoming familiar with the new distance, but that group was especially impressive. The highlight though was Brian Armijo breaking our school record in 25:20. The previous record holder was Jameson Otto in 2006 who qualified to the national meet in XC, which is pretty encouraging company to be in. The team believes they can go fast after this weekend, now we need to normalize that and shift focus to racing as well."

The Men placed 16th overall and nearly every member of the team earned a Personal Record.

Top 5 Performers:

37th,  Brian Armijo: 25:20.5

88th, Xavier Wines: 26:06.2

130th, Emilio Salas: 26:47.0

137th, Kevin Love: 26:59.8

146th, Cade Rosenquist, 27:10.5

The Pirates race again this Friday, Oct 13, 2023 at the ACU XC Meet at 6:45 PM CDT.
