Men’s Cross Country Takes Third in Concordia Classic

Men's Cross Country competed in the Concordia Classic on Friday with the event taking place in Pflugerville, Texas at the Northeast Metro Soccer Fields.

Amongst a combination of SCAC, ASC, NAIA, and Division II opponents, the Pirates ran an outstanding race, finishing in third place. NAIA school, Our Lady of the Lake, took home first place while fellow SCAC conference opponent, St. Thomas, took the runner-up position.

The Pirates were incredibly close to the second place position, finishing less than two minutes behind St. Thomas in total time. What was more incredible was that the Pirates finished just two seconds ahead of Division II St. Edwards university to grab the third place spot. The Pirates completed the 7.3K race with a total time of  2:04.26 and an average completion time of 24:53.

Xander Bailey ran an excellent race for the Pirates, earning a top ten finish for eighth place. Bailey recorded an average mile time of 5:18.5 with a total time of 24:04.7. Not far behind Bailey was Brian Armijo who gained 12th place by a total time of 24:16.6 and rounded out the top 15 for the Pirates.

Two Pirates made their way into the top 25 runners of the field. Noah Dennis finished in 20th place while freshman Xavier Wines ended three places behind Dennis in 23rd, each running 24:50.6 and 24:53.7 respectively. Finally, freshman runner Cade Rosenquist completed his race in 26:21.2, good for 44th position in a field of over one hundred runners.

Men's Cross Country will have one more race before the SCAC Championships, heading up to Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts to compete in the Suffolk Invitational on Saturday, October 15th.
