Swimming & diving crushes McMurry; split with UTPB

In their final regular season meet of the season the Southwestern swimming and diving team competed in a tough tri-team meet in Abilene. Southwestern men defeated McMurry 205-55 but fell to UT Permian Basin 165-115. The women won both meets, taking down McMurry 191-75 and edging out UTPB 144-135.

The women's medley relay set the tone for the day by winning the 200 medley relay. Madison Doty, Taylor Adams, Blythe Nava and Marisa McCormack won by over two seconds with a time of 1:55.17. Marissa Byrd continued the winning ways in the 100 breast, out touching teammate Natalie Lesnick at the wall in 1:13.52. Byrd also won the 200 breast with a time of 2:38.34.
Bimmon Belaineh posted the first win of the day for the men, bringing home the honors in the 50 free in 22.57. Nava won the event for the women with a time of 25.77. Alex Villarreal won the 200 back for the men in 1:58.88 and Martin Martinez won the 200 IM in 2:03.14.
The Southwestern divers had a big day, sweeping the 1 meter and 3 meter. Brandon Baccam posted scores of 108.90 in the 1-meter and 113.77 in the 3-meter to win both events. The women made it a 1-2-3 finish on the 1-meter board with Abby Miller winning with a score of 140.85. Haylee Knight finished second and Delaney Dunn third. Miller also won the 3-meter event with a score of 176.32.
The Pirates next head to the SCAC Chamionships in Rockwall, Texas beginning on February 14th
