Pirate Men's Swim Team Places Second in SCAC Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- On the final day of the Southern Athletic Collegiate Conference (SCAC) Swim & Dive Championships, the Southwestern University men's swim and dive team placed second with final scores of 872 points.

Trinity men's swim & dive won the program's second straight conference title, posting a meet record final score of 1,075.5. Colorado College won third place with a score of 504.50 points, followed by Centenary College at fourth with 359 points, McMurry University at fifth with 292 points, University of the Ozarks at sixth with 224 and Austin College at seventh with 164 points.

Keshaun Patel set the Pirates off to a good start in Saturday's session, posting a victory in the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 16:37.48. Matthew Oevermann followed close behind Patel and won second place in 16:48.80. Oevermann won third in the 400 Yard IM with a time of 4:12.92 and Patel won sixth place with a time of 4:21.40.

Southwestern's Keith Gill won first place in the men's 50-yard freestyle, putting up a time of 21.08 and won second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.27. Gill also won second place in the men's 100-yard butterfly with a time of  51.20.

Beau Player placed first for the Pirates in the men's 400-yard IM, timing at 4:11.86 and was third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.51.

In the men's 200-yard breaststroke, Alek Argueta pulled in second place with a time of 2:07.57, followed by Sam Andersonwho won fourth place with a time of 2:08.87. Argueta also placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.52 and S. Anderson won second place in the 200-yard IM in 1:55.50.

Sebastian Ortiz won third place twice in the men's 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle with times of 1:42.85 and 4:42.15.

The Pirate relay teams won five second-place finishes in the freestyle and medley. These teams included Carter DuncanS. Anderson, Gill and Henry McClurewho finished with a time of 1:33.88 in the 200-yard medley relay, and Tyler Scott, S. Anderson, Dylan Neumannand Gill finished the 400-yard medley relay in 3:30.81.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay S. Anderson, Dylan Neumann, Drew Anderson and Gill finished with a time of 1:24.58 and Ortiz, Gill, Keith S. Anderson and Neumann finished with a time of 3:06.76 in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Lastly, in the men's 800-yard freestyle relay, Ortiz, Gill, Kevan Kennedy and S. Anderson finished with a time of 6:55.00.

Southwestern is led by Head Coach Jon Duncan along with assistant coach Sarah James.
