Pirates Football Falls to Tenth-Ranked Hardin-Simmons

GEORGETOWN, Tex. – Tenth-ranked Hardin-Simmons invaded Birkelbach Field and took down the host Southwestern University football team 68-0

Southwestern dropped to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in the American Southwest Conference with the loss while the Cowboys improved to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the ASC.

It was just not in the cards for the Pirates on the day as Hardin-Simmons capitalized on Southwestern mistakes and scored three consecutive touchdowns on turnovers in the second and third quarters combined including an 8-yard fumble return, a 55-yard interception return and a 100-yard interception return to put the game away.

Hardin-Simmons was already leading 26-0 before its defensive scoring barrage put the Cowboys up 47-0 with 5:55 remaining in the third quarter.

Southwestern was held to just 12 first downs and 182 yards of total offense as opposed to 24 first downs and 398 yards of total offense by Hardin-Simmons.

Damian Gomez led the Pirates with 67 yards passing on 10-of-18 attempts while Landry Gilpin was 7-13 for 31 yards.

Noah Camacho led both teams in rushing as the freshman from James Bowie High School in Austin, Texas, carried the ball 14 times for 82 yards.

JoJo Wilson led the Pirates receiving corps with 26 yards on two catches.

Southwestern will go on the road for its next contest when the Pirates travel to Sherman, Texas, to take on Austin College. Kickoff for the Saturday, Oct. 29, contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. CDT.
