Eight Pirates Receive ASC Football All-Conference Recognition

Three members of the Southwestern University football team were named to the All-ASC Second Team, headlining eight Pirates who received all-conference recognition this season.

Senior wide receiver David Brandenburg and senior offensive lineman T.J. Vela were each named to the second team after helping to carry the Pirate offense through an injury-plagued season.

Brandenburg received his third All-ASC selection, earning honorable mention in 2017 and 2018. The slot receiver from Spring, Texas hauled in 26 receptions for 445 yards, averaging 17.1 yards per catch with five receiving touchdowns. He also showcased his versatility, rushing for 196 yards on 29 carries with a rushing touchdown.

Vela returned from a season-ending injury a season ago to anchor the Pirates' offensive line, helping Southwestern finish third in the ASC in rushing offense with 227.7 yards per game 

Sophomore punter Victor Windfeld also received All-ASC Second Team honors, helping the Pirates flip the field position throughout the season, averaging 37.2 yards per punt and placing 17 inside the 20.

Sophomores Charles De La Rosa and Elijah Smith received honorable mention on offense. Smith rushed for 501 yards in 10 games this season, scoring four rushing touchdowns. De La Rosa earned his first all-conference recognition at offensive line.

Senior defensive ends Nicholas Smith and Garrett Womack earned honorable mention defense, ending their careers with their first selections.

Womack led the ASC in sacks with 8.5 for a loss of 33 yards. He finished the season with 43 tackles, including 26 solo and 14 for a loss of 47 yards. Smith had 42 tackles with 2.5 sacks, forcing two fumbles with five tackles for a loss of 22 yards.

Senior defensive back Josiah Minnifield also received honorable mention all-conference on defense, recording 47 tackles and breaking up five passes while playing multiple positions in the defensive backfield.

Junior linebacker Major George was named to the ASC Sportsman Team of the Year.

The Southwestern University Pirates ended the season with a 4-6 record, including 3-6 in conference play.
