As we head toward the Southwestern University football season opener on Sept. 5, at Hardin-Simmons, we will preview the squad, by position. Today, we take a look at the linebackers with associate head coach and defensive coordinator Tom Ross.

Aug. 27 – Offensive line
Aug. 28 – Defensive line
Aug. 29 – Running backs
Aug. 30 – Linebackers
Aug. 31 – Wide receivers/tight ends
Sept. 1 – Defensive backs
Sept. 2 – Special teams
Sept. 3 – Quarterbacks

With everyone in the linebacking unit returning, Ross is excited for the middle layer of his defense.

Led by 2013 first-team All-SCAC honoree Tyler Frisby, the linebackers are described as experienced. The group also is one that will make plays this season for the Pirates.

Along with Frisby, Zach Cole and Mason Ford will fill out the top of the depth chart in Southwestern's 4-3 defense.
