Pirate swimmers cruise to win at Austin College

SHERMAN – A quick turnaround for the Southwestern swimming and diving teams showed no effect on the Pirates Saturday as both the men and women easily rolled to big victories over SCAC foe Austin College.

After swimming the 25-meter pool in Oklahoma the Pirates were able to secure the men's victory 732-283 while the women beat down Austin, 736-243. Both teams have won two of their last three duals starting with last week's win over NCAA-II McMurry.

Duplicating Friday's first place finishes, Kyler Wood swam to a pair of first place finishes again on Saturday. Wood claimed a win in the 200-yard IM (2:04.09) and the 100-yard breaststroke (59.22) as teammate Hector Posadas finished second in both races for the Pirates.

Posadas also earned a season best time in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:04.80 to finish second. He also teamed with Shelby Hall, Evan Jones and Wood to claim first place in the 200-yard medley relay for Southwestern.

The Southwestern men also got an impressive 1, 2, 3 finish in the 500-yard freestyle led by Tommy Frashier. Frashier earned a time of 5:02.92 to finish first while Ty Lapinski finished second and Daniel Withers checked in at third.

On the women's side a trio of Pirates earned season best times in the pool led by Mara Weidmann and Emmy Gradisar. Weidmann finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with her season best time of 1:13.72 while Gradisar finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.67.

Blythe Nava was the third Pirate to pick up a season best time of 57.90 as she swam to a second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Nava finished just behind teammate Madison Doty who earned the title with a time of 55.81 in the event.

Both the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay earned first place finishes for the Pirates as Emily Haskell and Nava helped both teams.

The Pirate women also saw Emma Florence earn first place honors in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competition. Florence finished with a score of 149.0 in the 3-meter and 146 in the 1-meter diving.

Sam Visser also gave the Southwestern men a first place finish in the 1-meter diving portion of the meet as well.

Southwestern continues action next weekend in a two-day event, the Tiger Shootout hosted by Southlake Carroll. Action on Friday is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. with Saturday action starting at 12:30 p.m.
