KERRVILLE, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates opened up its weekend of conference play with a win in three sets over the Austin College Kangaroos (25-20, 25-17, 25-19) in the first first of two games on Saturday.
Three Pirates finished with double-digit kills in three sets and Southwestern hit .230 as a team, taking a 45-30 edge in kills while holding Austin College to a .132 hitting percentage.
Senior Landri Brown reached double-digit kills for a second consecutive game with 10 on a .231 hitting percentage and assisted on two blocks for 11 points.
Emma White showed her work on offense and defense, recording double-digit digs for the eighth consecutive game with 17 and leading the team with 12 kills (.212).
Riley Brantley was the Pirates' most efficient player, blistering Austin College with 10 kills on a .474 hitting percentage and two block assists.
Lauren Crabtree continues to work as the team's primary setter, leading the team with 34 assists.
With the win, the Pirates improved to 12-6 on the season and 4-1 in conference play. The Pirates played JWU in the day's second match.
