Georgetown, Texas - The Southwestern Volleyball team got back on track Friday when they gained two conference wins against the University of Dallas Crusaders, and the Centenary College Ladies.

The Pirates opened up at 1:15 PM on Friday against the Crusaders in what was a must-win in conference play.

The Pirates took care of business three sets in a row, going 25-16, 25-15, and finalizing it in the third, 26-24. Christina Kuras passed double-digit kills with 11 on the day hitting at a .269 percent clip, while Carly Berkman and Andie Valenzuela hit over .400, both managing seven or more kills. Claire Romo dished out the balls to her attackers and reached 19 assists for the match.

Although the Crusaders put up a fight in the third set, Southwestern fought through for their first conference win of the season.

In the next match of the day Southwestern took on Centenary in an evening contest, a Ladies' team that was 6-11 and looking for a much-needed win.

The Pirates paved the way for what would be six straight set wins on the day with their first set win coming by way of a 25-19 margin. That was as close as the Ladies would come to the Pirates as Southwestern would win the next two sets by a nine and thirteen-point margin, respectively.

Kuras went back to back 11 kill games and had the second-highest hitting percentage on the team in the Pirate's second game. Romo again had 19 assists while Geneva Nedrow continues to impress with 20 digs in the match.

"This group of women showed a lot of joy and poured that energy into one another, competing cleanly point to point versus Centenary. We handled the ball well and the setters had nice balance distributing the ball throughout the match," says Coach Flora.

"Our team celebrated the defensive effort the squad put together throughout this match. Having 21.1 digs per set tonight shows that our eyes are on the correct things - system wise. Geneva having 20 digs was impressive as well."

The Pirates are back at it in the morning with a 10:00 AM tilt against Austin College in Seguin, Texas.
