Volleyball Falls To No. 7 Colorado College in Four Sets

KERRVILLE, Texas — The No. 16-ranked Southwestern volleyball team lost a four-set match to No. 7-ranked Colorado College, dropping its second regular-season match to the Tigers.

Colorado College overwhelmed Southwestern early, holding the Pirates to a .074 hitting percentage while hitting a match-high .212 in the first set to take it 25-16.

Southwestern settled in after that, taking the next set to extra points in a 27-25 loss and earning a 27-25 victory in the third set before losing 25-23 in the third.

"There are moments in the season where learning is job number one," Southwestern head volleyball coach Don Flora says. "How to learn and how to grow is key to this team's continued growth."

Lauren Crabtree was the lone Pirate with double-digit kills, putting down 13 on a .139 hitting percentage to go with three block assists. Katelyn Whitehead led the Pirates with 20 digs, while Claire Romo had a team-high 20 assists.

Georgia Mullins led Colorado College with 18 kills on a .218 hitting percentage while contributing 21 digs, six block assists, and three aces to total 24 points. Isabella Lipacis and Isabella Vasquez had 12 digs each.

"We saw where the margins get very thin between a win and not getting the win," Flora says. "We give Colorado College credit for playing some good extended volleyball today, and our staff continues to see our entire team willing to grow and develop."

Southwestern falls to 21-3 this season with an 11-3 conference record. All three losses have come to nationally-ranked teams. The Pirates have two matches left in the regular season, playing Schreiner and No. 3-ranked Trinity on Saturday, Oct. 30, in San Antonio.
