GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern volleyball team hosted the top nationally-ranked team in Division III, Colorado College, losing its home opener in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-22.

Southwestern struggled to contain reigning AVCA National Player of the Week Georgia Mullins, who used a steady diet of quick sets to score 16 kills on a stunningly efficient .522 hitting percentage. The junior middle hitter also set a wall the Pirates' attackers struggled to get around, recording four block assists.

Colorado College recorded seven blocks overall, with Peyton Hummel and Isabella Lipacis working from the back row to combine for 22 digs, limiting Southwestern to a .136 hitting percentage.

Southwestern struggled to find holes in the Colorado College defense in the first set, recording just nine kills in 27 attacks with six errors for a .111 hitting percentage. The Pirates committed more attack errors (nine) than recorded kills (eight) in the second set, finishing with a negative hitting percentage.

The Pirates opened the third set scoring five of the first six points, leading 13-9 at one point and posting their highest hitting percentage of the match at .286 for the set. Colorado College came roaring back, overtaking the Pirates at 17-16 and scoring the final three points of the set to win 25-22.

Emma White was the lone Southwestern player to reach double-digit points, scoring 10 with nine kills on a .154 hitting percentage and one ace. Lauren Crabtree scored 9.5 points with eight kills on a .150 clip and three block assists. Southwestern hit just .133 as a team.

In addition to Mullins' 16 kills, Colorado College's Isabella Lipacis reached double-digit kills with 11 on a .391 hitting percentage, adding 10 digs for the double-double and four block assists. Colorado College hit .306 as a team.

With the loss, Southwestern drops to 1-2 this season. Colorado college remains undefeated at 7-0. Both teams will play against tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
