Season best times fall for Pirates at Southlake Shootout

SOUTHLAKE, Texas – The Southwestern University men's and women's swimming and diving teams both took home top five finishes over the weekend at the Southlake Shootout featuring teams across all three NCAA Divisions.

The Pirate men finished sixth after standing in fourth place after day one as defending NAIA National Champion ran away with first place eclipsing the 900 point mark. Second place went to Trinity, while NCAA-II Henderson State finished third and UT-Permian Basin followed by Wayland Baptist rounded out the top five.

On the women's side the Pirates finished fifth behind UT-Permian Basin and Trinity checking in third. NCAA-II Henderson State claimed second place on the women's side while NAIA national runner-up Oklahoma Baptist also took home first place honors.

The Southwestern men picked up several season best times in the pool highlighted by Shelby Hall's third place finish in the 200-yard butterfly and Kyler Wood picking up a third place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Wood swam to a time of 58.90 as he also earned a top five finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. His time in the 200-yard was also a season best time at 2:12.76.

Hall finished with a time of 1:59.73 in the 200-yards butterfly and claimed a top 10 finish in the 200-yard freestyle clocking a time of 1:48.58. The first-year swimmer also teamed with Ty Lapinski, Dylan Johnson and Wood to finish sixth in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:38.56.

Johnson also gave the Pirates a top five finish checking in at 47.58 in the 100-yard freestyle to finish fifth.

Emily Haskell highlighted the Pirate women's afternoon in the water as she picked up two season best times. Haskell swam to a third place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.38) and picked up an eighth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.51, which was also a season best time.

Madison Doty continued her solid rookie campaign with three top five finishes that included a fifth place finish with her teammates in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Doty teamed with Blythe Nava, Sandy de Hass and Haskell to post a time of 3:48.60.

The Allen, Texas native finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.03) and place fifth in the 100-yard freestyle.

Both Pirate squads finish a tough stretch in the pool as they head to their final competition before the holiday break. Southwestern will compete December 5-7 at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Invitational before returning to action in January.
