Four Pirates Named To All-SCAC Volleyball Team

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2020-21 all-conference volleyball team, naming four members of the Southwestern volleyball team to the list of 24 student-athletes.

Right-side hitter and setter Lauren Crabtree, libero Ali Grona, and middle blocker Riley Brantley were named to the All-SCAC Second Team. Setter Katelyn Whitehead was named to the All-SCAC Third Team. 

Crabtree showcased a potent all-around skill set, finishing tied for first in the nation with six triple-doubles. The junior from Dallas, Texas, recorded 111 kills in 12 matches, averaging 2.47 per set on a career-high .203 hitting percentage. She also posted 171 assists, averaging 3.8 per set and 137 digs at 3.04 per set. She also had 14 aces. She earned one SCAC Player of the Week and became only the third Pirate named the AVCA Player of the Week. This is Crabtree's second All-SCAC honor. 

Brantley finished fourth in the SCAC in total points with 176.5, recording 141 kills, 42 blocks, nine solo blocks, and 10 service aces. Her 141 kills on a .281 hitting percentage were both ninth in the conference. She also finished eighth in the conference in solo blocks, sixth in block assists, and sixth in block totals. This is her second consecutive All-SCAC Second Team honor. 

Grona recorded the fifth-most total digs in the SCAC with 273, averaging 5.25 per set, which ranks second in the conference. She earned one SCAC Defensive Player of the Week award. 

Whitehead finished second in the SCAC in total assists with 364 and third in assists per set, averaging 7.00. She also had 14 service aces. 

Colorado College had a conference-best five players on the All-SCAC First Team, winning the SCAC Volleyball Player of the Year, Setter of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year. Southwestern went 9-4 this season, finishing third in the SCAC behind Colorado College and Trinity.
