Volleyball Loses to Austin College in Four Sets

SEGUIN, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates volleyball team fell on the wrong end of a hard-fought battle with the Austin College Kangaroos for third place in the SCAC Championship Tournament, losing in four sets. 

All four sets were decided by three or fewer points but the Pirates committed too many mistakes, finishing with 32 attack errors and 10 service errors. 

"Today was a day where we need to grow and understand the demands of every match we compete in," Head Coach Don Flora said. "Austin College played a fine match, yet we had numerous parts of the match under our control and we did not execute well enough." 

Emma White led the Pirates with 17 kills on 42 attacks with six errors for a team-high .262 hitting percentage. Elleanna McGown had 11 kills and 15 digs with four block assists and Riley Brantly had eight kills on a .208 clip. 

Ali Grona had 27 digs and five assists and Lauren Crabtree had a match-high 27 assists with 16 digs and eight kills. 

Christine Royalty led Austin College with 14 kills on an efficient .417 hitting percentage and Shelby cook had 10 kills. 

Southwestern finished with more kills (56-47), aces (11-10), and block assists (14-6), outscoring Austin College 74-61 in points. With the loss, the Pirates drop to 22-15.
