
KERRVILLE, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates volleyball team swept both games today, defeating Johnson & Wales University (JWU) Denver in three sets (25-10, 25-17, 25-18).
The Pirates took advantage of a slew of JWU hitting errors, which increased with each set to reach 10 in the third set for a total of 25 for the match, leaving JWU with a negative hitting percentage (-.019).
First year Jessica Kuras had the best match of her young career, totaling nine kills with no errors for a .450 hitting percentage to lead the team. Emma White had seven (.333) and five digs and Elleanna McGown had five.
Brook Paxton led JWU with nine kills on a .133 hitting percentage.
The Pirates finished with 50 digs as a team, led by Lauren Crabtree, who had a match-high 25 assists and two of the Pirates' four aces. Joelle Zoolkoski had four kills on a .222 hitting percentage.
With the win, the Pirates move to 13-6 on the season and 6-1 in conference play. Southwestern will play in Kerrville against tomorrow with matches against St. Thomas at 12:00 p.m. and Trinity at 6:00 p.m.
