No. 2 Southwestern Sweeps Texas Lutheran to Place Third at SCAC Tourney

KERRVILLE, Texas - After a stunning loss just a night ago, the No. 2 ranked Southwestern Pirates regrouped and swept through the 3rd place match against Texas Lutheran, dominating the match 25-16, 25-18, 25-15.

The Pirates were terrific on both sides of the ball, hitting .267 in their attack as a team while holding TLU to .130 hitting and not allowing them to score over 20 points in a single set. The same Bulldog squad that took No. 1 ranked Colorado College to five sets just one day ago.

The first set was TLU's best hitting set at .229 as a team, but Southwestern was simply that much better, hitting .364 with 15 kills to only three errors to pull away in the match. In the next two sets, SU held TLU to .176 and .000 hitting percentages while hitting .205 and .242 to earn the sweep.

Junior Jamison Duck had 11 kills to go with 12 digs in the match while senior Kate Mitchell had eight kills and sophomore Brittany Hohlt had eight kills on .538 hitting. Junior Megan Grimes added 33 assists on the afternoon.

Defensively, junior Brandi Campos had 11 digs while Grimes and freshman Taylor Beltz each had seven. Senior Piper Sisemore had seven kills to go with a block solo and a block assist.

Southwestern moves to 29-5 on the season and seems to be a lock for the NCAA Regionals next weekend as an At-Large bid. The Pirates will find out their opponent and destination on Selection Monday at 11:30 PM (CT) on NCAA.com. More infomration will follow when made available.
