#3 Volleyball sweeps Sunday SCAC play

SHREVEPORT, La. - Southwestern closed SCAC play with a pair of wins on Sunday afternoon, defeating Centenary College 3-0 and Austin College 3-1. The wins put Southwestern in a tie for second place in the conference with a record of 11-3, 25-4 overall. 

Against Centenary the Pirates hit an impressive .297 in the first set and got even stronger, posting a .560 hitting percentage in set two and .440 in the third set. Centenary was held to below .100 in all three sets as the Pirates dominated the match. 

Kate Mitchell and Brittany Hohlt combined for 22 kills. Mitchell was nearly perfect with 12 kills on 16 attempts with no errors.

Austin College kept SU on their toes as the Pirates won sets one and two 25-18 and 25-16. The 'Roos squeaked out a 29-27 set three win but Southwestern dominated the fourth set to win 25-14. 

Four Pirates posted double-digits in kills, Jamison Duck, Maya Clausen, Kate Mitchell and Piper Sisemore. Brandi Campos added 19 digs and was followed closely by Duck and Megan Grimes who added 15 each. 

"Today was an important statement to ourselves about handling some key moments in the schedule of matches in a season," said Coach Flora. "The coaching staff was encouraged by the entire team holding each other accountable to the demands of a season and of each match. We did a quality job of balancing our offensive distribution throughout each set and digs also helped lead to this balance in our offense."

Southwestern comes home for the final week of regular season play, facing Our Lady of the Lake on Wednesday at 6 pm and close the regular season with senior night on Saturday the 28th against St. Mary's.
