SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The second-ranked Southwestern University Pirates volleyball team moved to 10-0 on the season as they picked up a pair of three set wins over East Texas Baptist and Pomona-Pitzer on Friday afternoon at the Trinity University Fall Classic.
Against the Tigers in the early contest, Southwestern hit a blistering .415 as a team, finishing with 48 kills to only nine errors on 94 total attacks. Sophomore Brittany Hohlt led the charge with a career-high 16 kills on .652 hitting while senior Kate Mitchell added 11 kills and junior Jamison Duck picked up 10.
Junior Megan Grimes had 37 assists while fellow junior Brandi Campos added 17 digs. Duck and Campos each had three service aces.
In the nightcap against the Sagehens, Hohlt picked up 10 kills while Duck and Mitchell added nine. Grimes had 31 assists while senior Piper Sisemore had four blocks in the contest.
"This was a real important day for this team. To put away ETBU who is coming off a win over a ranked team and then for us to handle an up and coming Pomona-Pitzer team who can give you fits with their serving, is a sign of our growth," said Coach Flora. "Our staff is pleased with our hitting efficiency throughout the day. Numerous attackers took good rips in system and made good decisions when we were out of system, attacking wise."
Southwestern will be back in action tomorrow afternoon with a pair of tough contests, beginning with Hardin-Simmons at 11 AM followed by huge matchup with No. 11 Wisconsin-Whitewater beginning at 3 PM.
