Long named Co-SCAC Coach of the Year, three earn First Team selections

For the fifth time in her career, Head Coach Hannah Long has been named the SCAC Coach of the Year by her peers, this year sharing the honor with Trinity University's Julie Jenkins. Long also earned the honor in 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2011.

Long guided the young Pirate squad to a 25-8 overall record and 12-2 conference record to send Southwestern into the conference championship as the #2 seed. SU ended the season on an 11-game win streak and lost just two of the final 20 matches of the regular season.

Kaitlyn Foster, Kirby Kincannon and Macey Pool all earned their first, First Team All-SCAC selections this year.

Foster, a junior outside hitter from San Antonio, Texas, ranks in the top ten in the conference in most offensive and defensive categories. She has 320 kills on the year which is fifth in the SCAC and averages 2.60 kills per set, seventh in the conference. Foster is just as tough on the backline for SU, averaging 4.81 digs per set with 592 digs on the year, both fourth in the SCAC. Foster was a Second Team All-SCAC selection in 2012 and 2013.

Kincannon, a sophomore middle blocker from Lake Jackson, Texas, ranks third in the conference in solo blocks with 15, fifth in block assists with 70 and fourth in total blocks with 85. She ranks sixth in the conference in blocks per set at 0.77 and adds in a .272 attack percentage that is fifth in the SCAC. This is Kincannon's first All-SCAC selection.

Pool, a junior outside hitter form Spring, Texas, has battled injury to be an offensive force for the Pirates late in the season. She is fourth in kills in conference play with 133, fifth in kills per set at 2.77. Pool sits at eighth in the SCAC in digs per set at 4.03 on the year and ninth in total digs with 427. Pool was a Second Team All-SCAC selection last season.

Southwestern opens the post season as the #2 seed at the SCAC Conference Championship on Friday. They will face the winner of the Austin College/Colorado College match at 6pm in Sherman, Texas.

Voting totals based on coaches' votes with 16 points awarded for first-place votes, 15 points for second-place votes, 14 points for third-place votes, etc., down to one point for a 16th-place vote. Freshman-of-the-Year and Backrow Player-of-the-Year voting were done on a vote-by-vote basis, as was Coach-of-the-Year. In all cases, coaches could not vote for themselves or their own players.
