Pirates rally to defeat Millsaps 3-2

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The top two teams in digs in the nation squared off in Georgetown on Friday night and the Pirates emerged victorious with a 3-2 win over Millsaps College. 

Southwestern started the night strong with 25-19, 25-17 set one and two wins, holding Millsaps to .051 and -.016 in the first two sets with outstanding defensive play.

The Majors go quietly, however, and rallied back to take the third and fourth sets, 25-15, 25-20, by capitalizing off Pirate errors.

The Pirates refused to be outdone on their home court and pulled out the fifth and final set 15-10. Southwestern trailed just once in the set, at 7-6, but used a 4-0 run followed by a 3-0 run to seal the win in style.

Southwestern hit .111 as a team with 58 kills, led by Macey Pool with 17 and Kirby Kincannon with 12. Millsaps had 53 kills and a .084 attack percentage and was led by Caroline McKey's 11. The two teams posted a total of 302 digs between them with MC taking a slight advantage 155-147. Kaitlyn Foster led defensively for SU with 37 while MC's Ashley Zamjahn had 35 in the loss. The Pirates had five more blocks, however, led by Olivia Drummond with three. 

The Pirates improve to 23-8 overall and move thier win streak to nine. They remain at home with two matches on Saturday, a rematch with Our Lady of the Lake at 11am and UT Dallas at 4pm.
