Pirates and #16 Tigers battle again on court

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Once again, the Southwestern and Trinity volleyball teams faced off for an epic battle in SCAC conference action on Friday night. Trinity did just enough to sneak out the win 3-1 with two extended sets.

The first set laid the foundation for the epic battle that was coming as these two teams squared off for the second time this season. Trinity edged out the Pirates for an extended 27-25 set one victory.

With momentum securely in hand, TU pulled out the second set 25-20 to go up 2-0 early.

Refusing to go quietly, the Pirates regrouped and gutted out a tough third set, 29-27.

After trailing 10-8 in the fourth set, Southwestern picked up the pace and pulled ahead 15-13.  Trinity quickly rallied to pull back ahead 21-19 and seemed poised to close out the match in the fourth set. Trinity narrowly stayed ahead, closing the final set 25-22 to win the match 3-1.

Macey Pool led offensively for the Pirates with 14 kills while Kirby Kincannon added in 11 with a .385 attack percentage. Trinity's Maggie Emodi led all hitters with 19 kills.

Defensively, Kaitlyn Corbett posted 25 digs and Kaitlyn Foster added in 23. Kincannon also posted four blocks on the evening.

The Pirates fall to 14-8 on the year and 6-2 in the SCAC. They remain in San Antonio to face Schreiner and Texas Lutheran on Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m.
