#9 Pirates Dominate at Home

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern exerted their domination at home as they dismantled Schreiner University 25-20, 25-18, 25-17. The win improves the #9 Pirates to 13-2 on the year and they remain at 3-0 in the SCAC.

Schreiner jumped out to an early 8-5 lead, attempting to shock the Pirates by taking the first set, but hustle plays and big hits got the Pirates back in it quickly as they tied the score 14-14 and eventually took the lead 18-17. Disciplined defense helped the Pirates score five straight, building a five point lead 22-18. An ace by Allison Stubbs put SU just one point away from the set one win and they delivered it, 25-20, with a kill down the line by Jill Wigington.

The Pirates started set two on a rampage, rattling off four straight points to open the set. Schreiner was able to pull ahead 11-9 after three aces by Brittney Church. Southwestern eventually took the lead by taking advantage of Mountaineer errors 17-16 and never lost control as they won the second set 25-18.

SU took a slight advantage, 9-7, as the third set got underway, but the Mountaineers refused to give in to their impending doom as the game remained tight. A big kill by Rachel Thibodeau sparked another Pirate rally that Schreiner was unable to recover from as Southwestern closed out the set 25-17 to win the match 3-0.

The Pirates head out on the road this weekend for more SCAC conference action at the SCAC West/Central Divisional #1 in Memphis, Tenn. SU opens the weekend on Friday against #14 Colorado College and Millsaps and returns to face Rhodes and Hendrix on Saturday.
