
LEWISVILLE, Texas – Southwestern swept both relay events to open the 2017 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday evening at the Westside Acquatic Center.
The Pirates kicked off the event with a program record in the 200-yard medley relay, as the foursome of Michael Glover, Mickey Scharbrough, Matt Sluss and Simmon Belaineh combined for a time of 1:32.21.
Southwestern continued its strong start with a gold medal in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The team of Sluss, Glover, Peter Robinson and Todd Coachman sailed to a 6:53.33 time, which bested the runner-up by over four seconds and set a new school mark.
The league championships will continue Thursday. The preliminaries for four events begins at 10:30 a.m., while the same four events will hold finals at 6 p.m.
