
MIDLAND, Texas – The Southwestern men's swimming team competed against a pair of schools on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates were defeated by Wayland Baptist (132-110) and Texas-Permian Basin (172.5-80.5) in the tri-meet.
Southwestern captured three first-place finishes and a pair of runner-ups during the day.
The Bucs had most of their success in the freestyle events. Simmon Belaineh and Nathan Townsend finished 1-2 in the 100-yard freestyle. Belaineh was first to the wall with a time of 47.94 seconds, while Townsend was close behind at 48.66.
Michael Glover earned the 200-yard freestyle title with a time of 1:47.98.
Southwestern also picked up a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as the foursome of Belaineh, Glover, Mickey Scharbrough and Matt Sluss posted a mark of 1:37.49.
The Pirates will prepare for the SCAC Championships, which are scheduled to take place Feb. 8-11 in Lewisville.
