Pirates finish second at SCAC Championships

LEWISVILLE, Texas – The Southwestern University men's swimming & diving team finished second at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Saturday at the Westside Aquatic Center.

The Pirates tallied 871 points and followed only Trinity.

Southwestern set two more school records in the final day of competition.

The 400-meter freestyle relay finished runner-up, but posted a time of 3:06.07 to set the program mark. The foursome included Simmon Belaineh, Michael Glovers, Matt Sluss and Nathan Townsend.

Additionally, Mickey Scharbrough posted a NCAA B cut and school record in the 200-meter breaststroke with a first-place finish and time of 2:04.64.

The Pirates finished first, second and third in the 200-meter butterfly.

Sluss (1:52.71) and Shelby Hall (1:53.63) each logged NCAA B cut times to finish first and second, respectively. Evan Jones came in third with a time of 1:54.12.

Justin Milner won the 1650-meter freestyle after touching the wall in a time of 16:39.63.

Following the conclusion of the event, head coach Jon Duncan and his assistants were named SCAC Men's Staff of the Year.
