Pirates set school record in 200-meter medley relay on day one of SCAC Championships

LEWISVILLE, Texas – The Southwestern University men's swimming and diving team started strong on the opening night of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the Westside Aquatic Center.

The Pirates placed in both relay events.

Southwestern set a school record in the 200-meter medley relay, as the foursome of Simmon Belaineh, Michael Glover, Mickey Scharbrough and Matt Sluss posted a time of 1:32.96 to win the event. The Pirates edged rival Trinity by two-hundredths of a second to stand at the top of the podium.

Meanwhile, Southwestern also recorded a runner-up finish in the 800-meter freestyle relay with a time of 7:03.27.

The league championships will continue Thursday with a full day of competition, starting at 10:30 a.m.
