GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern Volleyball team was unable to find a win in three contests this weekend at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. The Pirates fell out to three of the top four teams in the SCAC, Trinity, Colorado College, and Schreiner.

In their first match against the Colorado College Tigers on Friday things played out similarly to their previous contest against the Tigers. Southwestern fell 3-0 and was unable to gain any traction throughout the entirety of the match. The Pirates managed just 28 kills to the Tigers 45 while hitting at 15.6 percent compared to the Tigers almost 34 percent. With just four service errors in the contest and thirteen from the Tigers, it was apparent the Pirate offense just couldn't gain momentum.

In the second contest on Friday against Trinity, the scoreline remained the same, a 3-0 defeat at the hands of a different Tiger team. The Pirates came alive on offense in the second and third sets after only putting up 12 points in the first. In total, the Pirates came away with 43 kills thanks to 22 total from Carly Berkman and Christina Kuras, as well as a breakout performance from the first-year Stratton Sneed (10 kills). The Pirates struggled on the return throughout both matches, giving up a total of 21 service aces, however, Southwestern had a better performance against a better Tiger team.

The final match of the weekend against Schreiner, who currently holds number four in the SCAC rankings, was a fight from start to finish. But ultimately, it was the Mountaineers who would come out on top in the five-set contest. The Mountaineers are more than meets the eye and have been scrappy all season long regardless of the opponent. The margin of error in this contest was thin as almost everything was identical, except the Pirates hitting percentage which stood at 14.4 percent compared to 20 percent from Schreiner.

"We continue to adapt and adjust on the fly. There are small pieces of the puzzle that we must commit to each day in training and in each match. There are pieces of the puzzle that make a lot of sense, and there are pieces that we still have to clarify, for our continued success," recaps Coach Don Flora on the weekend.

The Pirates have a one-off home contest against the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs on Wednesday, October 18th at 6:00 PM.
