GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Volleyball took their first loss of conference play on Friday night inside the Robertson Center. The Pirates were handed a 3-0 loss from the Colorado College Tigers who advanced to 1-0 in the SCAC.

The Pirates fell quickly in the first set, giving an 11-5 lead to the Tigers early on. Later on, Southwestern was able to cut the lead to two points, bringing the match to a 19-17 scoreline late in the first. Southwestern battled at match point bringing the score to, 23-24 until Colorado College finally gained the remaining point.

Southwestern was unable to translate the momentum they gained late in the first set into the second set. Southwestern tied the match at 10-10 early on but it was all Tigers throughout the rest of the second, winning it 25-18.

The Pirates and the Tigers battled back and forth in what would be the final set of the match. The changes in momentum shifted the Tigers way in the final minutes following a 20-20 tie. That momentum was all Colorado College needed to secure a 26-24 set win and a first conference victory.

"This match versus Colorado College had some strange momentum shifts.  And that is a key part of the game of volleyball.  How a team handles momentum and how they trust one another is key to the team's collective growth.  Continuing to compete one point at a time is part of the learning process," says Coach Don Flora

Notable performances from the Pirates include 12 kills from Carly Berkman who hit .385 for the match as well as Annika Flora who had 19 assists and 12 digs.

The Pirates will face Schreiner University and Trinity University on Saturday at 1:15 PM and 6:00 PM respectively in the Robertson Center.
