Volleyball Shines On Senior Day

GEORGETOWN, Texas — The No. 16-ranked Southwestern volleyball celebrated its seniors and homecoming with a pair of sweeps, defeating Austin College and Centenary.

Southwestern 3, Austin College 0 (25-18, 25-19, 26-24)

Setters Katelyn Whitehead and Claire Romo each had 18 assists, funneling the offense to the outside, where outside hitter Emma White and right-side Lauren Crabtree combined for 21 kills. 

Crabtree put down 10 kills on a .318 hitting percentage and White had 11 kills while hitting .200 while also contributing 15 digs. The Pirates also utilized a strong serve with nine aces, led by Romo's four. Riley Brantley had three aces to go with seven kills and two block assists. 

The Pirates held Austin College to a 0.092 hitting percentage, led by Ali Grona's 25 digs. 

Southwestern 3, Centenary 0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-17)

Crabtree and White continued to pace the Pirates in the second match, leading Southwestern with 11 kills each. Crabtree hit .368 and contributed four block assists, while white hit .310 and had eight digs and four service aces. 

Seniors Darby Stowers and Ashley Whitlock had six kills each on senior day. 

The Pirates limited Centenary to just .009 hitting. The Ladies had just one more kill (17) than errors (16). Ali Grona led three Pirates in double-digit digs with 17. Katelyn Whitehead had 12 digs and 18 assists, and Taylor Baccus had 11 digs. 

"Seeing the senior class play with joy and high-quality volleyball on their night made the entire program and Robertson gym full of fans celebrate these six fantastic women," Southwestern head volleyball coach Don Flora says. "They have made the program grow and develop in an ascending direction."

Southwestern improves to 18-1 this season and 8-1 in conference play. The Pirates will host Dallas and No. 3 Trinity on Sunday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
