Head Coach Hannah Long
Hannah Long begins her eighth season as the head volleyball coach for the Pirates. Long has found quick success at the helm of the Pirates. Named the 2005, 2008 and 2009 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Coach-of-the-Year, Long led Southwestern to a 14-0 conference mark and an SCAC volleyball title in 2009.
In 2008, the Pirates swept the major awards in the conference taking Coach-of-the-Year, Player-of-the-Year, Backrow Player-of-the-Year, and Freshman-of-the-Year. Just how deserving the Pirates were of these awards was shown in their post-season play as they advanced to the NCAA Regional Final where they lost in five games to eventual National Champion Emory. SU ended the season in 9th place nationally in the final AVCA poll.
In 2008 the 36-5 mark represented the most wins in a single-season for Southwestern since joining the league in 1994. Long is the third Southwestern coach to earn SCAC Volleyball Coach-of-the-Year honors - following Glada Munt in 1994 and Scott Mayhew in 1997.
From the bench, Long has mentored numerous All-SCAC, All-Region, and All-America selections.
A two-sport standout at Portland State University, Long served as the assistant volleyball coach at her alma mater before serving as the assistant coach at Western Oregon University. Long received a master's degree in higher education administration from Texas A&M University, while also serving as the head volleyball coach for the Brazos Valley Juniors Volleyball Program. She has coached club volleyball for many years along the way and has been a club director as well.
