Head Coach Don Flora and Christina Kuras Join SCAC Media Days

Head Southwestern Volleyball Coach Don Flora and junior outside-hitter Christina Kuras join Associate SCAC Commissioner Russell Kramer to discuss the upcoming volleyball season. The Pirates look forward to a competitive schedule both out of conference and in one of the toughest volleyball leagues in the country in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Southwestern will kick off the year by heading to California facing a slew of SCIAC opponents including the University of La Verne, Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Looking forward, the Pirates will play host to the Southwestern Fall Invitational before attending the Trinity Invitational and then getting into the meat of conference play.

In order to replace crucial seniors lost last year to graduation, Coach Flora has brought in eight first-year players all of whom the coaching staff are excited about not only in regard to their athletic potential but their excitement and enthusiasm on the court as well. As far as returners, the staff will be looking to their two returning seniors, Alex Husen and Andie Valenzuela, as well as his heavily experienced junior class, to show the newcomers "The Pirate Way". With last year's freshmen showing maturity beyond their years and contributing highly to the established culture, Southwestern volleyball will be balanced across the board in leadership and talent.  In terms of expectations, Don Flora believes that the sky can be the limit in the 2023 season.
