Foster becomes Southwestern’s second AVCA First Team All-American

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 35th annual AVCA All-America teams for NCAA Division III women's volleyball and awarded Kaitlyn Foster as a first team selection.

Foster closed the year ranked nationally in nearly every category, including 45th in attacks per set (10.53), 57th in kills per set (3.67) and 69th in kills (393). She led the Pirates in kills and kills per set and was second on the team in digs with 471 on the year and 4.40 per set.

Her season-high in kills of 22 came against Trinity both times as she posted just one hitting error in 99 attempts during the two meetings for an astonishing .434 attack percentage. With a season-high 27 digs, Foster led the Pirates to a 3-2 win over nationally-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in October on their home court.  

After a sensational senior campaign, Foster has had no shortage of awards bestowed upon her. She was a First Team All-SCAC pick, First Team All-Region selection, was the SCAC Tournament MVP and was named conference player of the week three times while earning national player of the week honors once.

Foster is joined by Christina Nicholls who was the first Southwestern volleyball player to earn the NCAA Division III First Team All-America tag in 2011.

Nikki Welch was also named in the release as an Honorable Mention All-America selection. Welch, a setter from Austin, Texas, was ranked 72nd nationally in assists per set at 9.42 and 77th in total assists with 998 on the year. Welch was also a First Team All-Region pick, First Team All-SCAC and was a member of the SCAC All-Tournament Team.

The 2015 All-America selections were made by the AVCA Division III All-America Committee: Tim Byram, Endicott, chairperson; Jane Becker, Augsburg; Amber Warners, Calvin; Nicole Wentz, Keystone; Deb Kiick, Millikin; Michael Houhlihan, UMass Boston; Lindsay Birch, Christopher Newport; Cal Wickens, Nazareth; Jaime Fisher, Millsaps; Tiffany Davis; Texas Lutheran. The awards will be presented Nov. 18, 2015, at the NCAA Division III Women's National Championship banquet at Calvin College where the 2015 Division III AVCA Player of the Year will be announced.
