Southwestern sweeps Millsaps to improve to 3-0 on the year

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University volleyball team rolled to a sweep of Millsaps to close out competition on Friday at the Robertson Center. The Pirates (3-0) won by scores of 25-9, 25-18 and 25-16.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After starting off the first set slow, the Bucs broke a 7-7 tie with a 7-0 spurt. Southwestern then outscored the Majors 11-2 the rest of the way to set the tone for the rest of the match.
• In set two, the Pirates opened up a 19-9 lead and cruised the rest of the way for a nine-point win.
• Millsaps managed to stay close in the final panel until a kill by Olivia Drummond started a 10-3 run by SU. The Bucs scored seven of the final 13 points to clinch the match.

STATISTICAL BREAKDOWN
• Southwestern hit .260, including a blistering .441 in the opening frame, while holding the Majors to a -.019 hitting percentage.
• The Pirates racked up six service aces in the win.
• SU also held the edge in digs, 53-49.

SOUTHWESTERN STANDOUTS
Abbie Robb led all players with 10 kills to go along with a team-best .381 hitting percentage.
Nikki Welch dished out a game-high 23 assists.
Kaitlyn Foster posted 13 digs and nine winners, while Andie Alford collected 11 digs.

UP NEXT
• Southwestern will host two matches on Saturday. The Pirates will match up with Illinois Wesleyan at 12:30 p.m., and then face Whitworth four hours later.
