
GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University volleyball team battled past Texas-Dallas in five sets to kick off a busy weekend on Friday at the Robertson Center. The Pirates (2-0) defeated the Comets (1-1) by scores of 27-25, 22-25, 25-22, 16-25 and 15-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• After taking a 2-1 lead in the match, Southwestern struggled in set four, as Texas-Dallas raced out to an 18-4 advantage. Despite a 12-5 run by the Bucs, the Comets held on to even the contest with a nine-point victory.
• In the final panel, the two teams split the first 22 points. However, Southwestern took control with a winner by Kaitlyn Foster and a UTD attack error. After the two teams traded errors, Andie Alford set up Foster for the winning kill.
STATISTICAL BREAKDOWN
• Texas-Dallas posted a .174 hitting percentage, while the Bucs managed to hit .167.
• Both teams had numerous players log double digits in digs, as UTD collected 142 overall, while SU racked up 127.
• The Comets also led in service aces, 4-1.
SOUTHWESTERN STANDOUTS
• Nikki Welch and Foster both registered double-doubles. Welch handed out 45 assists to go along with a team-high 26 digs, while Foster hammered home 21 winners and she collected 20 stops.
• Olivia Drummond posted 11 kills, while Kate Mitchell added 10.
• Kaitlyn Corbett logged 24 digs, while Macey Pool (18) and Alford (16) also reached double figures.
