Pirates breeze through day two of SCAC Divisional

GEORGETOWN, Texas - After a tough day one of action the Southwestern women's volleyball team coasted to a pair of 3-0 wins on Sunday to improve to 13-6 on the year and 5-2 in the SCAC.

SU opened the day against Centenary and were never challenged as the Pirates took down the Ladies. Southwestern started out blazing, mounting a 16-3 lead before closing out the first set 25-10. Centenary responded with a tough start to the second set and had the set tied 6-6 before SU turned it on. Kirby Kincannon served eight straight points as the Pirates mounted a 14-6 lead and never looked back to win the second set 25-15. In the third set Centenary pushed back harder but couldn't pull ahead as Southwestern sealed the 3-0 match win with a 25-19 set win.

Southwestern boasted a balanced attack led by Macey Pool with nine kills. Olivia Drummond added 15 with a .333 attack percentage in the win.

To close out the tournament Southwestern hosted the University of Dallas who was still in search of their first win of the weekend. UD came out determined and hung close to the Pirates, tying the game 14-14 on a kill by Mairin Guilfoyle. Southwestern cruised from that point on, however, taking advantage of Crusader errors en route to a 25-18 win to open the match.

The Pirates destroyed UD in the second set, posting a .351 attack percentage while holding UD to .062. Chandler Lentz served eight straight Pirate points to push SU to a 23-8 lead before closing out the win 25-11.

Dallas refused to go quietly into the night, however, as they turned the third set into a nail-biter. Southwestern controlled the game early and led by as many as 6, 12-6, before Dallas battled back to take the lead 15-14. The Pirates built their lead back to four, 24-20 but UD responded with another run to tie the set 24-24. Two UD attack errors closed out the match for the Pirates, handing them the 26-24 set three win.

Kaitlyn Foster led the charge with 12 kills and a .33 attack percentage while Abbie Robb and Pool posted nine each.

Southwestern remains in third in the conference after the weekend and return to non-conference play on Thursday, facing UT Dallas in Richardson, Texas at 7 p.m.
