Volleyball Ends Regular Season with Pair of Wins on Senior Day

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern women's volleyball closed out regular season action over the weekend, going 3-1 at their Halloween Tournament.

Southwestern opened the tournament with a tough match, facing Our Lady of the Lake who has shown dangerous talent at points this year. The Pirates were tested early, but managed to pull out the set one win 26-24. Another close match faced SU in the second set but they once again prevailed 25-22.

OLLU got tired of getting beat to the punch and edged out Southwestern in the third set 26-24 before the Pirates turned the tides in their favor with a 25-18 set four win.

Hardin-Simmons came to town for the final match of day one and Southwestern knew they would be in for a fight. A long opening match reiterated the dual as SU won 27-25. It was all Cowgirls in the second set as Southwestern wasn't able to piece together a big run as they fell 25-17.

Another tight match in the third set fell the way of Hardin Simmons 27-25 and then closed out the match with a 25-20 set four win.

Day two Southwestern came back refreshed and needed just three sets to defeat St. Thomas. The Pirates smartly capitalized on the Celts' mistakes as they made substantial runs in each set, winning 26-24, 25-23, 25-15.

After a senior recognition ceremony honoring Rachel Sellari, Rachel Thibodeau and Kayla Saenger the Pirates got down to business. SU got off to a rocky start and dropped the opening set 22-25. After a shock to the system Southwestern shot back to action and dominated the final three sets 25-11, 25-12, 25-12.

Southwestern sits at 22-10 on the year and with a 7-3 conference record they enter the SCAC Conference Tournament this weekend as the #3 seed. The tournament will be held in Colorado Springs, Colo. and the Pirates face #6 Centenary at 2 p.m. on Friday.
