Volleyball Gives D-II St. Edward's Run for their Moneay

AUSTIN, Texas - Southwestern didn't back down from St. Edward's University or show any signs of rust on Wednesday night, forcing five games before falling 3-2.

Despite hitting only .065 percentage, the Pirates pulled out the win in the first set 25-18, staking a claim at the match win early on. SU's chances were halted in the second set as they fell 18-25 even while hitting better.

Southwestern turned up the heat in the third and fourth set and were nearly untouchable with a .284 and .233 attack percentages, committing just two hitting errors in each set. They won the third set 25-22, but dropped the fourth 25-20.

It was all St. Edward's in the fifth and final set as Southwestern fell 15-4.

Rachel Thibodeau had 17 kills in the loss while Meredith Rollins added in 13 and Kaitlyn Foster 10. Chandler Lentz had a team high three aces and was third in digs with 24. Lacey Strickland and Foster led in that category with 28 digs each.

The Pirates return to SCAC action this weekend as they take on #22 Colorado College, Trinity and Austin College on Saturday and Sunday in Sherman, Texas.
