Pirates Ace Opponents for SCAC Sweep

GEORGETOWN, Texas - With wins over Centenary and Dallas on Saturday the Pirates completed a sweep of SCAC conference action over the weekend, using stellar serving as launchpad to the wins.

Southwestern opened the day with Centenary who was still searching for their first win of the season. The Pirates came out hot and never looked back as they posted a .233 hitting percentage in the first set to win 25-12.

It was much of the same the rest of the way and the Ladies were never in the contest and SU won 3-0, 25-12, 25-11, 25-17. Jenna Taylor was on fire offensively, leading Southwestern with a .583 hitting percentage on eight kills in 12 attempts with one error. Katie Foster also posted eight kills and Meredith Rollins added in seven while playing in only two sets. Foster also led the team in digs with 16.

After the dominating opening match the Pirates were tentative in set one against Dallas and dropped the opener 25-21. It didn't take long for SU to turn things around, however as Chandler Lentz posted aces in the third and fourth set to give the Pirates some cushion en route to 25-17 and 25-18 set two and three wins.

In the fourth set it was Rachel Sellari who provided the final push, riding Southwestern to the final point with three consecutive aces. SU closed out the game 25-17 and match 3-1.

Lentz posted seven aces in the match, just one shy of tying the Southwestern record, and 28 digs, both team highs. Rachel Thibodeau led with 14 kills was the only Pirate in double digits in kills.

Southwestern improves to 11-4 on the year and begins 3-0 in the SCAC. They return to the road for a match wtih Howard Payne University in Brownwood on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
