Standout Performances At War Hawk Classic | Neff's New Record

ABILINE, TEXAS- The Southwestern University Track & Field Teams traveled to participate in the War Hawk Classic, hosted by McMurry University on April 15-16. This would be the last regular season track meet before the SCAC Conference Championships. The Women's team walked away with some fantastic results, including 23 new Personal Records.

Arden Neff smashed her previous school record with a dominating 1:04.82 first place finish in the 400 Hurdles at the 2023 War Hawk Classic. Neff has been named SCAC Track Athlete of the Week. "It's awe-inspiring to see Arden Neff continue to excel by smashing her previous school record in the 400 Hurdles event at the 2023 War Hawk Classic. Her first-place finish with a dominating time of 1:04.82 is a testament to the hard work and dedication she has put in," said Coach Eboh.

"Danielle Wilson, a freshman, had an outstanding performance in the women's Javelin at the 2023 War Hawk Classic, achieving a season-best mark of 33.08m. Her impressive performance landed her 8th out of 24 competitors at the event while also securing her 3rd place in the SCAC standings. It will be exciting to see how she continues to perform throughout the rest of the season," said Coach Eboh.

Personal Records:

"Our 800m women have had some really tough workouts the last month which they saw the results of in the race this weekend. Nearly all of them  ran a season best or lifetime PR in windy conditions this weekend, which shows the strength we've been building. It's exactly the kind of momentum we want to have going into the conference meet," said Coach Joe Sponsel.

"Barbara Dunlap had a huge lifetime personal record in the 100m hurdles that shot her up the SCAC rankings. She's been working incredibly hard to have her breakout performance, and this weekend she had her "Aha!" moment. Before she even saw the time on the board, she knew it was a huge PR. Watching the look on her face as all her teammates ran up to celebrate alongside her was so rewarding as a coach to see. The 400m hurdles is more of a strategic race than one would think. Arden and Lily executed their race plans to perfection this weekend, and both earned lifetime bests, to include Arden's new school record. Lily has now improved her performance in the 400m hurdles every single time she's raced, which is a feat in and of itself. I can not wait to see what our hurdlers do at the conference meet," said Coach Tuttle.

"With a ton of PRs, season bests, and another couple school records at McMurry, the team is gaining some momentum and is set up very well for the conference meet at home this weekend. With another week to sharpen up and get rested, we are in a good place to be at our very best when the stakes are raised this weekend. It was just about the best pre-conference meet we could have asked for," stated Coach Eboh.
