Track & Field Shows Progress on Day 2

ABILENE, Texas — On the second day of the Abilene Christian University Wes Kittley Invitational, Southwestern's Charlotte Kraushaar wrapped up the women's heptathlon, and the Pirates' long-distance runners competed in the 1,500 and 5,000 meter runs. 

Kraushaar opened with a third-place finish in the long jump, scoring a distance of 4.85 meters. She also placed sixth in the javelin throw at 29.67 meters before withdrawing from the 800-meter run. 

Rachel Chiella showed significant improvement in the 1,500-meter race, clocking in at 5:23.67 for a 20th-place finish, beating her time of 5:40.58 in the season-opening Trinity Invitational. 

In the men's 1,500-meter race, Brian Armijo and Vincent Kim finished with 22nd and 38th place finishes in section one. Armijo's finished with a time of 4:11.88 in his first collegiate attempt, while Kim clocked in at a personal-best 4:35.43. 

Xander Bailey and C.P. Shaulis finished in 13th and 14th place in section 2 of the 5,000-meter run. Bailey finished with a time of 16:34.79, obliterating his previous time of 17:04.39, and Shaulis finished at 16:36.29. Doug Ginsberg rounded out the Southwestern lineup with a personal-best 17:24.09, placing 22nd. 

The ACU Wes Kittley Invitational will wrap up tomorrow. Field events include the javelin throw, pole vault, long jump, discus throw, high jump, and triple jump. Track events include the 4x100mm relay, 1,500-meter run (section 2), 100-meter hurdles, 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 800-meter run, 400-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, and 4x400-meter relays.
