Women's Track and Field Compete At D3 Challenge

Women's Track and Field Compete At D3 Challenge

Seguin, Texas- Both the Men's and Women's Track and Field teams competed in the D3 Challenge hosted by Texas Lutheran University on Saturday, March 25th.

"We competed exceptionally well, saw new Pirates make competition debuts, and continued to break school records. It was a great weekend to be a Pirate! We need to use this momentum to focus our training through the midpoint of our season," said Head Coach Eboh. This was the third meet for the Pirates, and they used it as the perfect opportunity to get some new personal records.

Women's Personal Records:

"This meet put a lot of athletes in the top 6 of the SCAC leaderboard, and set the stage for potentially scoring a lot of team points when we have our conference championship here at Southwestern in April," said Coach Tuttle. "Track season can be a grind, and I think this weekend was exactly what we needed to reignite and refocus as we enter championship season. More big marks are around the corner! I'm particularly proud of our hurdler ladies. The transition from high school to college hurdles is not an easy one, especially with the jump in distance in one of track's hardest races: the 400m hurdles. Lily and Lauren have now dropped their times 3 weeks in a row, and are only looking stronger and more confident with every race."

Coach Joe Sponsel had this to say about his runner's efforts, "The 800m was our main focus this weekend for the mid-distance group. We made some tactical adjustments after talking about everyone's races last weekend and worked on those in training this week. Although nobody ran a PR, the whole group was able to implement those new ideas at the meet and have a better understanding of the 800m distance..Now that we've got those adjustments down, we can keep working on just getting in better shape and looking forward to our next opportunity to show what we can do."
